CONTACT IMPROVISATION to progress in your personal
and artistic development...
When I lived in NYC to continue my further Dance
education, Contact Improvisation was weekly part of the schedule. In the beginning I was really afraid of this subject. I was too much in my mind, my perfectionism got in the way and not having
to achieve anything was unbearable to me.
But, after a while, I started to enjoy it, I
became ready to let go my fear and minimize my Performance demand.
🗯️ Why is CI helpful for the personal and
professional development of Dancers and Performance Artists?
🔹CI is about spontaneity, trust and exploring
boundaries through touch and movement where two practicioners find a common point of con(tact) and move through space with this point of contact.
🔹CI is using the fundamentals of sharing weight,
lead and follow. Experimenting with gravity and balance not only promotes physical dexterity and flexibility, but also trains the ability to react intuitively to unexpected
movements.
🔹CI is exploring joint movement possibilities and
reinvent dance every moment. It allows the mind to think, but not overanalyze what motions the body is producing. There is a comfortable balance between the mind's conscious awareness and the
body's impulsive act.
🔹CI is studying movement through awareness and
requires a high degree of presence, as every step results from direct communication between the bodies. Your ability to deeply observe and listen to your fellow improvisers can release tension,
promote an overall sense of well-being and ease, boost vitality and aid concentration. Through regular practice, you can develop a refined awareness of your body, movements and perception of
space.
🗯️ Try, improve and grow with CI - may the
following questions support your movement:
How can I use gravity for my
movement?
How do I transfer weight into the
ground?
What happens when we touch and lean on each
other?
How can we move through space
together?
What opportunities for movement arise through
working together?
